About BREFON

Who we are​

We are a team of change-makers who believe that every helping hand can raise a child and create a better future for them.

Bread for the Needy (BREFON) is an indigenous, registered national non-governmental organization founded in July 2019 in Gulu, Northern Uganda. BREFON is voluntary, non-religious, non-political, and non-profit.
The organization was established by a multidisciplinary team of professionals and volunteers in response to the long-standing Mental health and psychosocial challenges affecting vulnerable populations in Northern Uganda, particularly survivors of conflict, natural disasters, poverty, and displacement.

BREFON operates in partnership with local government authorities under a Public–Private Partnership (PPP) framework, working closely with Gulu City Council and district local governments across the Acholi sub-region to deliver community-based Mental health/ rehabilitation and development services.

Our approach

Our Mission​
To provide comprehensive mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) and integrated social services to individuals and families affected by natural and human-made disasters through skilled professionals who understand and respond to each client’s unique needs.
We combine professional care, community empowerment, and sustainable livelihood interventions to promote long-term emotional wellness and social reintegration.

Whether it is a reassuring conversation, financial help, education, professional training, or simply the assurance that they are not alone, we will make sure that everyone gets support that meets them where they’re at as quickly as possible.

Our Vision​
To set a new standard in community-based mental health and social rehabilitation services where integrated, evidence-based approaches create lasting positive change and restore dignity, resilience, and hope among vulnerable populations.

Our entire team wants to see a world where every youngster struggling in any way feels able to reach out and has people who’ll help them with education, jobs, and more. We want to spread out in every region so we’ll be reachable to all.
